These 48 drive bays are "top load". The chassis must be pulled out from its rail and the top cover must be removed.

Although with raid controller cards, the 48 bays can be hot swap. But since these drives bays are top-loaded which mean that the top cover must be removed, your drives may over-heat very quickly. Thereofore, it is strongly recommended that you shut down your server before you attemp to swap your drives.
